Our History
St. Mark MBC was organized on July 15, 1967, by Reverend Coleman Gray, along with his family and supporters. An inaugural celebration service was held on August 6, 1967, when the constituents moved from his home to 405 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The inquiries of some visitors allowed an opportunity for God to speak to their hearts, and the membership increased drastically throughout the years. On November 7, 1971, the St. Mark membership marched from the initial storefront location to 802 Pavone Street. After relocating to the new location, the church continued to serve as a beacon of hope in the community, experiencing accelerated growth. Reverend Gray finished his race serving from 1967 to 1980. The body of St. Mark MBC elected the Assistant Pastor, Reverend John L. Price, to assume the role of the Pastor. After serving in the Wolverine District and dedicated years of service to the church, he finished his course, serving from 1980 to 2011. God appointed Elder Donald E. Green, Sr., as the Under Shepherd after the loss of Pastor Price in June 2011. Throughout the years, the congregation relocated to a temporary place of worship due to the deterioration of the landmark location at 802 Pavone Street. While in the temporary location and obeying God's mandate, Pastor Green presented the church with a vision to change its name. By unanimous decision, the church's name was changed from St. Mark MBC to Holy Ground Worship Center. By the grace of God, our new church location is 1455 East Napier. We look to the hills from whence cometh all of our help, realizing the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, and our help comes from almighty God. We are excited about the history of what God has done and what He is doing. We dare not attempt to replace our history; we build upon it. Glory to God as we walk by faith and not by sight, pressing toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
